No Change For Bus Terminus: Grey St. Held To Be Unsuitable

Reporting to last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council, the bus committee dealt with a suggestion put forward by the Midway Progress Association that the terminus for the borough bus services be established at Grey street. The proposal was considered in conjunction with a largely-signed petition by traders requesting that the existing terminus in Customhouse street be retained, as being the most suitable for a majority of residents of the borough. “In the opinion of your committee, a terminus at Grey street would be impracticable,” the report stated. “Grey street intersection is an extremely busy one, and buses turning there would create considerable danger and congestion. “The matter of establishing a termineral for all buses, both country and town, is one which must be considered in the not far distant future, but this, of course, could not be located in the public street. It is recommended in the meantime that no alteration be made in existing conditions.” The council unanimously adopted the recommendation.
