MINER KILLED IN FALL FROM BACK OF MOVING MOTOR TRUCK

The lorry, with three men in the front seat, left Rapahoe for Greymouth and the other two men apparently jumped on the back with the object of geting a lift as far as Runanga. As the vehicle was passing through Runanga Mr. Merriman apparently fell on his head in jumping to the ground. His neck was broken and he died within a few minutes. With the driver unaware of the occurrence the lorry continued on to Greymouth and it was not till some hours later that the driver. Mr. Douglas Foster-Lynam and the front seat passengers learnt of Mr. Merriman’s death.
