Walker-Karaka Wedding In Te Araroa

One of the most interesting and attractive weddings witnessed by Matakaoa residents for a considerable time was that of Kura Kakerangi, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nehe Karaka, Mokonui. and Leonard Tuku. son of Mr. and Mrs. William Walker, Hicks Bay. The Rev. T. Pohatu. Ruatoria, oftieiated at the ceremony, which took place at St. Stephen's Church, To Araroa. The bridal party was accommodated before the ceremony at the home of Mrs. C. Katae. Te Araroa. The interior of the church was tastefully decorated in white with streamers and floral effects. . . The bride looked becoming in a wed-ding-gown of white figured cloque with heart-shaped neckline, long close-fitting sleeves and full train. A shoulder spray of white carnations and a full-length heirloom veil with a tiara of orangeblossom completed a charming ensemble. The bridal bouquet was of white asters and irises with maidenhair fern. Mr. William Poutu gave the bride away. Attending the bride were Miss Jean Herewini, as chief bridesmaid, and Misses Kate Karaka, Elizabeth Walker. Kohi Paringatai, Rangi Karaka and Elizabeth Campbell, with Raukura Gerrard and Rayne Walker as flower-girls. The bridesmaids, who were paired, wore frocks of the same pattern throughout, styled with fitting low. waist, high neckline and very full skirt. Each wore a short white net veil. The pairs were frocked in white georgette, with red trimmings, white cloque with cyclamen, and white net with blue trimmings respectively. All carried matching bouquets and wore floral headsprays to tone. , , ... The little flower girls wore white spotted net over satin with white ribbon trimmings, and their posies were variegated. The best man was Mr. K. Kururangi, and Messrs. T. Stainton, N. Henare, J. Dewes, J. Karauna and S. Potae were groomsmen. The church usher w r as Mrs. C. Katae, and Miss E. Goldsmith was the organist. I The reception was held in the Rongomaitapui dining hall, where the bride’s mother, Mrs. T. Karaka. received approximately 500 guests, both European and Maori, from all parts of the country. Tables w r ere attractively decorated with pink and white dahlias. The wedding cake was a handsome one of three tiers. There was an exceptionally large array of presents. The bridesmaids received sets of pearl ear-rings as their presents from the bridegroom. The future home of the young couple will be at the bridegroom’s farm at Hicks Bay. Post-Wedding Dance

To celebrate the wadding, a large number of guests attended a most enjoyable dance at the Rongomaitapui Hall on Saturday evening. Music was provided by two orchestras, the local R.G.S. and another from Tikitiki. The M.C. was Mr. B. Walker. The bridal couple led. the grand march, music for this being provided by Miss Annie Joyce Mill. A number of stage items by the Tutaanga concert party, which had travelled from Tikitiki for the purpose, found general appreciation.
