PLEA FOR DOMINION RECOGNITION OF FIRE ENGINEERS’ INSTITUTE

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 5. Pleas for the official recognition in New Zealand of the Institution of Fire Engineers and for financial assistance from the Government or a fire council proposed to be set up were made at today’s annual conference of the Dominion branch of the institution.

In representations which had been made to the Internal Affairs Department, the Fire Boards’ Association and the Fire Brigades’ Union it had been pointed out that 85 per cent of the chief officers in .England held an institution diploma by examination.

Mr. V. B. Gibson Christchurch, said the institution was regarded as a purely technical body and that might explain why it was not invited to take a more active role in the Dominion.

A finance committee was appointed to consider plans for the raising of funds for the improvement of administration and technical development of the New Zealand branch.
