DOUBLE SUCCESS FOR LEWIS AT FIRST MAHAKI TRIALS

With his entry, Dawn, VV. Lewis enjoyed a double success at the first trial of the newly-formed Mahaki Sheep-Dog Trial Club, winning the open long head and open short head events against keen competition. The trials were an unqualified success. There is every indication that they will continue to be a popular fixture in the district.

The course, offered by the Waihuka station, was ideal and in the opinion of the huntaway adjudicator. Air. Fred Maxwell, was an excellent testing ground for huntaway dogs. Sheep for die _ trials were loaned by Potutu station.

An innovation that was appreciated by judges, competitors, stewards and .spectators was the installation of a loud-speaker svstem capably operated by Mr. R. D. Waddington, Otoko. The fact lliat the heading judge, Mr. u. Herbert, put through 42 runs on tile second day and 45 on the final day and the meeting, reflected credit on those running the meeting. The Otoko Women’s Institute, with tlie assistance of other women, was responsible for catering arrangements and under the direction of Mrs. G. Shanks performed the various duties well.

At the conclusion of the meeting the president of the club. Mr. Frank Fara.m, thanked the judges for their services and called upon Mrs- G Shanks, who presented two handsome silver bowls to the judges. A dance organised by a young entertamment committee was held in the Puha Hall. Miss Lena Ruru's orchestra supplied the music. Results of the trials were:— Class I.—Long Head
