COUNTRY RAINFALL
Rain totalling 5.33 in. fell at Paritu station last month, ,93in. less than in March last year, bringing the . total for the first quarter of the year to lG.lSin. Last year’s total was 9.90 in. The number of wet days were nine and six respectively. The station’s heaviest fall was 1.33 in. on March 7. Eastwoodhill station recorded 1.50 in. which brought the quarterly total to 6.(Min. Last year’s figures were 2.76 in. and 5.43 in. Wet days numbered five and seven respectively. The heaviest fall was ,84in. on March 7.
A total of 5.28 in. was registered at Pukewhero station, Mangaoporo, where recordings, with last year’s shown in parentheses, were: —Month’s total, 5.23 in. (7.72 in); wet days, 11 (12); quarter’s total, 22.52 in. (13.44 in.); heaviest fall, l.GSin. on March 19. Taoroa station recorded a frost on March 24. During the month 0.95 in. of rain fell against 4.06 in. in March, 1948. The total to date has been brought to 7.48 in. the same as last year. The number of wet days were six and 10 respectively, while the heaviest fall of 0.29 in. was on March 12At Matarau station 4.47 in. was recorded, compared with 9.98 in. in March, 1943. There was one more wet day than last year, the totals being 15 and 14. The quarter’s total is 18.54 in. of rain. 1.75 in. more than in the corresponding period last year.
