ENGLISH VISITORS ARE ENJOYING TOUR OF N.Z.

“We are finding New Zealand a wonderful country, and its people most hospitable,’’ said Mrs. M. J. Whitehouse, England, in an interview in Gisborne yesterday. Mrs. Whitehouse, with Mrs. M. B. Dawson, Miss Whitehouse and Miss Russ, is at present touring New Zealand.

Mrs. Dawson’s husband, Captain H. Dawson,. marine superintendent, and Mr. Whitehouse, managing director of the New Zealand Shipping Company, London, are at present visiting Australia. They are expected to arrive in New Zealand next Monday on a business visit.

Mrs. Whitehouse and Mrs. Dawson spoke enthusiastically of New Zealand, its rugged formation, and picturesque scenery, which they have seen under ideal weather conditions. The schools aifd State houses in New Zealand received favourable comment from the visitors, who were also impressed with the comfort and hospitality of the hotels they had visited. Questioned on present conditions in Britain, the visitors were emphatic in their opinion that the Mother Country had _ “turned the corner,” and was making a good recovery. "In the last six months,” added Mrs. Dawson, “improvements have been especially noticeable.

“The food situation, though improving, is far from satisfactory. New Zealand food parcels are a wonderful help, especially those containing meat and fat, which are practically nonexistent in the present-day diet in England.

Mesdames Whitehouse and Dawson, with Misses Whitehouse and Russ, will shortly make a tour of the South Island, prior to their departure on the Rangitiki. which is due to sail from Auckland on May 9.
