MIDNIGHT BLAZE GUTS CORDIAL FACTORY

(P.A.) PAHIATUA, April 5. Damage estimated at £IOOO was caused last night when fire gutted a cordial factory occupied by Pahiatua Aerated Waters Ltd. The outbreak occurred shortly after midnight. The alarm was answered by volunteer firemen who soon brought the blaze under control.

The flames made a fiery spectacle in the darkness and attracted a large crowd of spectators, most of whom were in night attire.

The cause of the fire is unknown. It first gained a hold in the rear of the building. The flames swept over the roof, but were quelled before cnvclopthe whole structure. The building was extensively damaged, but the machinery was saved.
