AMATEUR BOUTS SPONSORED BY BOXING ASSOCIATION

Boxing enthusiasts attended an amateur tourney of 11 bouts in the Y.M.C.A. last evening and were quite satisfied with the standard of the more experienced boys and the pluck of several of the youngsters. The fixture was arranged by the Gisborne Boxing Association.

B. Garlick took a points decision over lan Kerr in one of the chief bouts of the evening. They made a fight of it from the start and gave a pleasing performance. v The other bout to be featured was that between J. Penny and B. Buckingham. The going was willing’ in the first round, but Penny overwhelmed his opponent in the course of the bout and was awarded the decision. In the minor bouts the decisions were:—Ladd d. Borlace by T.K.0.; McKee d. Harris: Morete d. Lewis; Merrit d. Finnigan; Blogg d. Coop; Evans d. Keeling by K. 0.; O’Brien d. Foster; Kingi d. Beets. In an exhibition bout, the professional, N. Dornan, met a Wellington visitor, Cameron, and the two gave a polished display of ringcraft.
