ROTORUA FINE OF £4O FOR BOOKMAKING

ROTORUA, April 4.

A 41-year-old labourer who, it was stated, was convicted and fined £3O for bookmaking in March of last year, appeared before Justices of the Peace in the Rotorua Police Court today charged with having carried on the business of a bookmaker on Saturday, He was Sonny Brennan, of Ohinemutu. He pleaded guilty and was fined £4O. Sergeant J. M. Quartley stated that the accused had in his possession about £4.

“Magistrates all over the country are dealing very severely with bookmaking,” said Mr. C. H. Coleman, J.P., in imposing the fine.
