GARDENER SUCCUMBS WHILE FUMIGATING PROPAGATING HOUSE

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 28. Overcome by gases while he was fumigating one of the propagating houses at the Botanical Gardens, a man was found dead this morning. He was: Mr. Brendan P. Mansfield, director of the gardens and assistant director of narks and reserves in Christchurch. Mr. Mansfield was taking advantage of the wet conditions last night to treat one of the houses with a gas preparation. He apparently remained too long in the house after the gas had been liberated and was overcome.
