NEW ZEALAND’S WEDDING GIFT TO PRINCESS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Mar. 28. An inlaid writing desk of native woods—New Zealand’s wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh—is nearly completed. It is being made at E. H. Foster’s Auckland workshop. From the delicate inlaid tracery on the side cupboard doors to the 18 carat gold stars on the drawer handles the desk is a splendid piece of craftsmanship. It weights about 3cwt. and is estimated to be worth between £BOO and £IOOO. Work on it began in January. 1943. The Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, saw the desk yesterday' in its nearly completed state and was well pleased with the job.
