MR. T. M. HINKLEY, manager of the New Zealand Press Association, Wellington, is paying a holiday visit to Gisborne.
MR. H. E. CAVE, Ngatapa, left Gisborne by air today for England. He expects to complete his return journey on July 25.
MR. W. J. JORDAN, High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, who has been ill, has left hospital and is reported to be- making satisfactory progress.
MR. S. M ROSIE, Hamilton, Mr. A. G. Smith, Dannevirke, and Mr. R. S'. Leess, Hawera, were visitors at yesterday’s weekly luncheon of the Gisborne Rotary Club.
MR. C. G. E. MARKER, M.P. for Hawke’s Bay. is expected to arrive at Gisborne on Friday to attend a meeting that evening of National Party members in the northern end of the Hawke's Bay electorate. MR. J. B. WILLIAMS, the chairman, presided over Mrs. E. R. Scott, Messrs. G W. Armstrong, II H. Barker, P .F. Barker, E. R. Black, H. Cooper, H. HI Dods, J. H. Hall, H. J. F. Tombleson, and A. M- Traflord at the meeting of the Cook Hospital Board yesterday.
MR. W. SULLIVAN, M.P. for Bay of Plenty, accompanied by Mrs. Sullivan, Will arrive at Gisborne this afternoon from Rotorua, where he had a public engagement last night. This evening Mr. Sullivan will address a meeting in the Opera House and tomorrow he leaves for Waihau Bay. MR. H. SIEVEWRIGHT, chairman. Mr. W. L. Dunn, secretary, and Mr. L. Fleming, architect, of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, inspected several schools in the Gisborne district today. They are to address a meeting of teachers and school committee members at the Gisborne Intermediate School tonight. MISS M. I. LAMBIE. director. Division of Nursing, Health Department, Wellington, Dr. H. B. Turbott, deputy-Director-General of Health, Wellington, and Dr. T. C. Lonie, medical officer of health, Palmerston North, attended a meeting of a committee of the Cook Hospital Board today for the purpose of considering the future control of the district nursing service.
MR. A J NICOL presided over a full attendance at yesterday's meeting of the Gisborne Harbour Board. Other members present were Messrs. I. J. Quigley. M. J. White. R. G. Clare, L. Miles, A. A. Fraser, R. D. Dvmock. J. G. ApDleton. C. Mills. W. R. Clark. R. C. Murphy, T A. N. Corson, C. 11. Cooper, A. B. C., Sleele and J. T. Gordon.
MR. JUSTICE CALLAN and Mrs. Callan returned from a year’s tour of England, Ireland and Scotland yesterday when they arrived at Auckland in the "Wanganella. Mr. Justice Callan’s leave, which was the normal one granted to judges of the Supreme Court after 10 years’ service, was delayed by (he war. Mr. Justice Callan had no comments to make yesterday. He expects to return to the Bench within a few days.—P.A.
