'Chaser's Wild Dash In Enclosure: Thirty Injured

(10 a.m.) LONDON, Mar. 9. While tlxc packed members’ reserve was cheering Lord Mildmay, the rider of Castlcdermot, winner of the National Hunt Steeplechase at Cheltenham, Furryglen, another runner, riderless, with a slipped saddle and reins trailing, crashed through the rails of the members’ enclosure.

The frightened horse dashed towards the stand through the scattering and falling crowd. At one moment it looked likely to mount the steps of the stand, but swerved and • followed a fleeing woman wearing a mink coat. The woman fell and the horse jumped over her, crashing again through the rails and landing on the course. It raced to the paddock entrance. A number of bookmakers’ clerks had their ledgers knocked out of their hands in the scramble for safety. Several men who tried to catch the horse were knocked down.
