DELAY OVER ARGENTINE DEAL JEOPARDISES MEAT RATION
(11.15 a.m.) LONDON, March 9. The British meat ration position will be serious if negotiations for a new Argentine meat agreement do not succeed within a month or six weeks, says the Associated Press correspondent, quoting an authoritative source.
The Government feels it would have public support in deciding to cut. the ration rather than be “blackmailed” into an agreement. Argentine meat represents about one-third of the weekly ration of 17worth of meat, which includes 2d worth of canned meat. No ration cut would be necessary if an agreement is reached in a week or so, but the negotiations have progressed so slowly so far that they cannot get going until the negotiators reach some agreement on financial matters.
