Rise In Butterfat Production Of Southland Farms
(P.A.) iNVERCARGILL, Mar. 10. Southland dairy farmers are experiencing one of the best* seasons for many years. Remarkable increases were recorded in butterfat production at tire beginning of the season. One group of seven factories had an overall increase of 104 per cent, for September and, although, as expected, such increases have not been maintained, the improvement over the figures for the same period last year is considerable.
Official figures to the end of December, taking in the first five months of the season show an increase for Southland of 20.84 per cent, compared with the Dominion increase of 5.31 per centSince December there has been a slight decline from the seasonal peak, but the production level is more than encouraging in the opinion of experienced dairymen.
