AUTHORITY NOT TAKEN FROM ENGINEER

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 9. It was not true to say that the assistant engineer, Mr. R. G. Brickell, at the Lake Tekapo hydro-electric job had been stripped of authority as a result of the strike negotiations at Tekapo recently, said the Minister of Works, Mr. 11. Semple. The Minister said his attention had been drawn to a newspaper statement in which it was claimed that authority had been taken from Mr. Brickell. The statement, ho understood, did not emanate from the headquarters of the Workers’ Union and certainly did not come from a Government source. “It can be taken for granted,” said the Minister, “that no engineer of my department will be stripped of the authority necessary for him to carry out his duties.”
