ACTION TO BE TAKEN BY FARMERS WANTING PLANT

Information concerning the farm equipment survey cards filled in by farmers last year was sought by Mr. C. H. Cooper at a special meeting of Federated Farmers held in the Bon Accord room in Gisborne on Friday night. He said there was some doubt in farmers' minds regarding supplies coming forward in response to the survey and the action to be taken by farmers not included in this year’s allocation.

The general secretary, Mr. A. P. O'Shea, explained that only about one in every five applicants for a tractor of American make could be satisfied this season. The dollar funds made available also covered importations of power mowers, hay balers and other minor items. Wire had been coming forward in increasing supplies and in some districts there already was a surplus in stores. It would not be long before that position would be reached in Gisborne.

Importing firms would be carrying out the survey this year, and the federation would be associated with them in that work. Every person awaiting an American tractor and whose name was on the last survey, should, he said, contact his machinery firm. The chairman. Mr. S. McGuinness. suggested that farmers who had not received an allocation this season should see their machinery firms, place a firm order, and fill in a necessary form giving information that would fix the priority. The new survey was to be completed bv April 15 to enable orders to be placed in America in time to have delivery made for next season’s work Priorities were fixed according to the need for maintaining or increasing production.
