Apples For London N A start has been made with the loading of 14,000 cases of Hawke’s Bay first export apples of the season into the Port Fremantle at Napier. Further export fruit is to be taken from Napier by the Royal Star, which is expected to arrive in port later this week. She will take aboard 44,000 cases of apples for London and 16,000 cases for Antwerp.
Wanganui Wool Sale Cheque Thirty thousand bales of this season’s wool offered at the Wangaqui sale on February 1 realised more than £1,000,000. The average price a bale was £34 14s 2d, and the average a pound 23.609 d. In the corresponding sale last year dealing was spread over two days. Forty thousand bales were offered and the yield was more than £1,500,000. Skeleton Bought
The purchase of an articulated human skeleton for the Epsom Girls’ Grammar School was approved by the Auckland Grammar School Board at its last meeting. The skeleton, which would cost £63, would be of educational value to the pupils, stated a letter from the Drincipal, Miss M. “I have assured other Chambers of Commerce who have written to me, and repeat this assurance, that resumption of work on this line will be considered as soon as conditions permit, stated the Minister of Works, Mr. R. Semple, in a letter to the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce. “The existing_ shortages of materials, labour and equipment make it impossible to contemplate a commencement at present, and you will realise that I could not recommend such a step to the Cabinet until the position is such as to permit construction under full-scale working conditions.”
