Delay in Australian Free Medicine Scheme
(11 a.m.) HOBART, Feb. 22. The State Minister of Health. Dr. Turnbull, said that it was equally the fault of the British Medical Association and the Commonwealth that the people of Australia were not receiving free pharmaceutical benefits. "Both parties are behaving like naughty children,” he added. “They are hurling abuse and blaming each other, instead of getting together and finding a solution. , “Unfortunately, the British Medical Association is ruled by conservative specialists, just as other unions are ruled by their radical elements. Because of the prepanderance of members in New South Wales the rest of Australia has practically to do what the New South Wales branch desires. “This branch is ultra-conservative and its secretary cannot resist saying no to any proposition put up by the Government. This is especially unfortunate for Tasmania, where the doctors are on the whole prepared to co-operate in the pharmaceutical benefit scheme.
