FIJI TO WHENUAPAI IN UNDER 5 HOURS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 22. British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines’ Douglas DC6 aircraft Discovery lowered the Nnndi-Whcnuapai commercial flight record yesterday when it was flown for the first time on the Vancouver-Auckland service. The airliner, which cruised at 300 miles an hour, touched down at Whenuapai after a flight of four hours 51 minutes from Nandi. This broke by 10 minutes the previous record established by the same airliner on its delivery flight from San Francisco to Sydney, via Auckland, a few days before Christmas. Passengers said on arrival that the flight at an altitude of 17,000 ft.. was made in the greatest comfort.
