BRITISH TROOPS AT RED SEA PORT

A party of men of the Lincolnshire Regiment paraded for detail on tent-erection duties as the British force, rushed to the Red Sea port at the request of the Transjordan Government, settles in. Reports that Israeli troops were said to be advancing in the direction of Akaba are believed to have prompted the invocation of the Anglo-Transjordan Treaty of March. 1948. The troops have now settled in and established local defences. (A.P. Photo)
