REBEL FORCES CUT BURMESE TELEGRAPHS

(11 a.m.) RANGOON, Feb. 15. It is officially announced that widespread rebel activity has forced the Burmese Government to suspend telegraph traffic throughout the country except in the south-east coastal area of Tenasserim. Only three towns, Moulmein, Tavoy and Mergi maintain telegraphic communication with Rangoon. The Government today claimed that troops in an all-night battle repulsed combined attempts by “Karen and Communist rebels” to seize the Irrawaddy delta towns of Kyaiklat and Dedaye, 40 miles south-west of Rangoon.
