MINDSZENTY CASE DEBATED IN U.N.
(11 a.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 10. Cardinal Mindszenty’s _ case was openly debated in the United Nations for the first time in the Economic and Social Council during the discussion of a United States motion that certain court cases affecting human rights should be put on permanent record in the United Nations Book of Human Rights. The Peruvian delegate urged such cases as Cardinal Mindszenty’s should be included but the Polish delegate immediately said the case of the Cardinal had nothing to do with human rights. He was supported by the Soviet delegate, Mr. A. P. Morozov who said: I don’t think this forum should be used for such interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign State.” The council finally adopted a Chinese proposal to postpone the Year Book question until next session.
