MRS. ROBINSON PASSES : WIFE OF LATE TOWN CLERK OF GISBORNE
Extremely well-known in Gisborne for many years as the daughter of an early collector of customs and later as wife of a town clerk of long-standing, Mrs. Effie Marion Robinson died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. H. Taylor, 345 Childers road, last evening. Mrs. Robinson’s late husband, Mr. R. D. B. Robinson, who pre-deceased her by 15 years, was for 45 years town clerk of Gisborne. Both in the capacity of wife of the town clerk and in her own right Mrs. Robinson in her younger days came to be highly respected amongst the people of Gisborne. She was the daughter of the late David and Janet Johnston, who shortly after Mrs. Robinson was born shifted from Invercargill to Gisborne, where Mr. Johnston became a collector of customs in the fairly early days of the town.
Educated in Gisborne, Mrs. Robinson took a keen interest in community life and was an active member of a number of organisations in her younger days. She was also a keen gardener. Mrs. Robinson had not enjoyed the best of health for the past few months. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Taylor. Gisborne, and three grandchildren. One son, Mr. David Eric Robinson, died 17 years ago. A service wdll be held at 345 Childers road at 2 p.m. tomorrow, after which the funeral will leave for the Taruheru cemetery.
