Two Jeunes and Burton Qualify in National Shooting

(P.A.I TRENTHAM. Feb. 11. After a day of considerable fluctuation in the fortunes of many riflemen, S. Kanaar. a member of the Australian party competing at the meeting emerged at the head of the field for the final shoot at Trcntham today for the New Zealand rifle championship. Kanaar, who leads W. Oakley (Christchurch) by two points, shot consistently well at the three long ranges yesterday. I. Sutherland (Opaki) improved his position with each shoot to finish four points behind Oakley. The light was good, but a variable fishtail wind called for judgment of a high order.

Two possibles at 800 yards in the Taranaki match and one each at 800 and 900 yards in the Southland match reflected the quality of the shooting. Those to gain possibles were R. Barrow (Cheltenham). C. Denson (Okawa), D. J. Flynn (Featherston) and W. S. C. Bowman (Kaitaia). Today the Service Fifty and the King's Prize match are being fired. The following qualified for the final shoot: S.
