A STORY AGAINST HIMSELF

A story against himself was told by Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park when he entertained representatives of the press in WellingtonSir Keith, it seems, has at his home in Auckland a newly-arrived Rarotongan maid and a motor lawn mower. When, last week, he was attempting unsuccessfully to start the latter, the former appeared at his side and, after viewing operations for a moment suggested: “Feed him petrol, then he'll go.” Sir Keith, who, in his own words, has been "messing about with engines for 40 years,” received the advice good humouredly and, deciding to show the girl tat an extra dose of petrol would not remedy matters, removed the cap of the mower's tank. The tank was dry.
