“RESCUE” PLANE HELD UP TILL DUTCH ATTACKED
BATAVIA, Dec. 20.
The Dutch deliberately delayed the Indian plane so that it could not “rescue” the Indonesian President, Dr. Soekarno, before the police action began, Mr. B. Patnaik, a member of the Orissa Legislative Assembly in India, told the press in Singapore when the plane returned from Batavia today.
Mr. Patnaik, who is a personal friend of Mr. Nehru, last year ran the Dutch blockade to fly out Dr. Sjahrir from Jogjakarta to the L T nited Nations shortly after the beginning of the first police action.
The plane, a Dakota belonging to the Indian I-Calinga Air Line, arrived at Singapore last Thursday, but could not get a clearance from the Dutch consulate until Saturday night. It took off for Batavia yesterday morning, but the police action had already been begun by then and the Dutch authorities said that Dr. Soekarno and other Republican leaders might quit Jogjakarta aboard the plane and set up an exile Government abroad, perhaps in India.
