YOUNG MAORI SINGER IMPRESSES BRITONS
Excellent progress had been made by Inia Te Wiata, the young maori singer, a former resident of Otaki, said the Bishop of A.otearoa, the Right Rev. F. A. Bennett on his return from London. “All who have heard Inia sing agree that he has a most remarkable voice, and his teachers are more than satisfied with his work,” the Bishop said. During his visits to London, he remarked. he had seen a good deal of Inia. in whose carreer he had been interested before the latter left for England. “The way in which he had settled down and tackled his studies impressed me very much,” said the Bishop. ‘I believe that he is an excellent advertisement for the Maori people and for New Zealand generally, and that much will be heard of him in the future.”
