Higher Pay For Dairy Factory Workers
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. Complete agreement on the terms of the New Zealand Dairy Factories Employees award was reached in the Conciliation Council yesterday. The settlement provides for a fiatrate increase of 6s a week to all workers engaged from August 1 last (or since then) until December 20. From December 20 all rates will be increased by a further 5d a week, making a total of 6s 5d a week over the present rates. This will bring the basic rate in the industry up to £6 15s a week. All penal and overtime rates will be based on the new wage scale, thus adding further to the effect of the increase. Conditions of work will remain little changed from those ruling under the present award. The agreement is for an award operating for one year. No official report of the negotiations was issued at the conclusion of the sitting of the Conciliation Council yesterday but the terms are to be the subject of an address by union officials to a meeting of dairy workers at Morrinsville today.
