(P.A.)

DUNEDIN, Dec. 10.

When a steel tyre on a goods wagon broke at Tumai, about half-way between Goodwood and Waikouaiti, at 6.10 o'clock last night a portion of a mixed goods train travelling from Oamaru to Dunedin was derailed. The train had accommodation for passengers, but there were none on board at the time. The members of the train crew were uninjured. The main north line was blocked for eight hours by the complete derailment of one wagon and the partial derailment of iwo others. About 10 goods trains were affected.
