OBITUARY
MR. J. THOMAS SPEARS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 6. The death occurred in the Wellington Hospital yesterday, after a short illness, of Mr. J. Thomas Spears, O 8.E., a past president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation and a prominent member of the Red Cross Society. Mr. Spears, who was aged 64, was born in Sydney and came to New Zealand about 28 years ago. Pie was honorary treasurer of ihe Red Cross Society for many years and was awarded the 0.8. E. for his work during the Second World War. He was a steward of the Wellington Racing Club and raced a number of horses. Mr. Spears leaves a wife and one daughter. The council of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation passed a resolution expressing regret at the death of Mr. Spears. Tributes were paid to his work as an active pioneer member of the federation.
