East Coast Road Blocked

Heavy rain overnight in the Te Araroa-Cape Runaway area caused tne streams to rise and the East Cape scenic highway was blocked to traffic information received this morning by the Gisborne office of the Automobile Association (Auckland). Following the rain of the past four days, road surfaces in the district were tending to become somewhat greasy this morning and care was necessary in some places. Women’s Institute Enthusiasts An example of the enthusiasm felt by many members of the Women’s Institutes in their activities was shown yesterday by the attendance in Gisborne of 14 members of the Hicks Bay institute at the half-yearly council meeting of the federation. All had travelled to Gisborne especially for the meeting.
