Stream Of Refugees Evidence Of Red Ruthlessness
PARIS, Oct. 4,
The British Under - Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Major C. P. Mayhew, replying to Russian attacks on the West, told the social committee during the debate on the United Nations’ declaration of human rights that communism “is one of the most ruthless forms of economic and political dictatorship the world has ever seen.” Major Mayhew said fascism was less dangerous to democracy than “those who call their political opponents Fascists and then execute them." He added that Communist secrecy could not conceal the stream of political refugees to the West. “These refugees, many of whom fought with the Allies during the war, blow down the mountains of propaganda about the vaunted Communist institutions.”
In' answer to the Russian charge that there was heavy unemployment in the United Kingdom, Major Mayhew gave specific examples to show that Russia was far behind Britain in employment, social security measures and education.
