FIRST MAORI UNDERSECRETARY APPOINTED
XP.A.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 1. Mr. T. T. Ropiha has been appointed Under-Secretary of Maori Affairs. He is the first Maori to hold this position in more than 100 years of Maori administration and replaces Mr. ,G. P. Shepherd who retired recently. Mr. A. J. Harper has been appointed Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs. He replaces Mr. J. W. Heenan who will retire at the conclusion of the Royal tour next year.
