SNOW FALLING IN OTAGO

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, Oct. 1. The south-westerly wind which brought snow to most of the high country in Otago yesterday moved further south during the night and snow was falling this morning over most of the province. In Dunedin sleet showers passed quickly over the city, but the encircling hills carried a light mantle of snow and hail.

The Beaumont district, on the fringe of the Central Otago uplands, received the worse visitation and some of the roads carried Gin. of snow, with drifts up to 4ft. deep. The telephone lines are down between Tapanui and Rae’s Junction. SNOW-FLAKES IN PETONE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 1. OMALL flakes of snow fell in the business area of Petone at about 11.15 o’clock this morning and continued, interspersed with light rain, until 11.45. Some of the snowflakes measured Sin. across.

The snow melted as soon as it struck the earth.
