TOP TEAMS IN SEASON’S INDOOR BASKETBALL

The season’s competition play of the Gisborne Indoor Basketball Association concluded at the Army Hall on Wednesday evening when Dynamos defeated Tuis, 11-8, in the play-off for the women’s A grade championship. Possibles and Probables sides of women and men players from the respective B grades also provided keen play in the trials for the selection of representative teams to meet Hawke’s Bay, in the Wairoa tournament this month.

Another fast display was given in the match in which The Rest, chosen from men A grade playors, gained a 33-29 decision over Colts, who made a great bid after being down, 2-17, at half-time. Winners of Trophies The trophies won during- the year were presented by the association president, Mr. C. Greig, who congratulated the winners and all teams on the improved standard developed- .. Winning teams in the various sections were:— W’omen. —A Grade Championship: Dynamos. B Grade Championship: Pctties. Handicap Tourney: M.I.A. Men. A Grade Championship: Sioux. B Grade Championship: Y.M.C.A. Handicap tourney: M.1.A., Te Hapara. Trophies donated as prizes for improvement by individual players were awarded as follows: Women. —A Grade, Colts’ team trophy: Miss L. Hinton (Tuis). B Grade: Mr. P. Griffin’s trophy: Miss B. Kay (Cassrells). Men.—A Grade: Mr. P. Bradv’s trophy: T. Gardner (Sioux). B Grade: Mr. P. Griffin’s trophy: H. Miller (Greyhounds). Team for N.Z. Championships . The players to represent the association in the New Zealand women’s championship contest being played in Dunedin from Monday to Friday have been in training for over two months and have developed impressive pace and combination. The title is held by the Palmerston North representatives who are also the North Island champions. Tlie Gisborne players in next week’s contest have drawn the same section as Wellington, runners-up to Palmerston North for both the New Zealand and North Island titles. The Gisborne team is:—

Women Reps.—Forwards: Misses J. Carnegie (captain), C. McCallum, L. Wilkinson. Guards: Misses N. Mcßae (vice-captain), L. Hinton, A. Richardson, P. Lloyd. Miss V. Clarke has been appointed as manager and Mrs. K. Fitzgerald as chaperon.
