(10 a.m.)

Boully 84, 83, 167; R. FI. Glading and Miss B. Kernot 85, 86, 171. Silk Plays Well
The New Zealander Silk played delightful golf in the morning round with Mrs. Fisher, making only one faulty shot —an iron which he pushed out into the rough. In the second 18 he missed a 2ft. putt at the ninth, but his play otherwise was remarkably sound. Glading obviously is still below his top form, although his rounds of 85 and 86 with Miss B. Kernot gave no indication of what he could have done. He said later that he was not yet satisfied with his game and that his tee shots were giving him a lot of trouble. Flowever, he was putting soundly and hitting with his irons reasonably well. One of the best displays in the morning was given by Woon, whom the New Zealand manager, Mr. G. P. Roberts, says is playing splendid golf. Hornabrook Confident Hornabrook hit the ball confidently while playing with Miss Ebert and played his best golf in the afternoon when the pair took six strokes off the morning round of 86.
Woon and Miss Fletcher dropped eight strokes on four holes in the afternoon outward nine for which they took 44. They recovered sufficiently to be home in 40. In a practice round at the Royal Melbourne west course on Thursday Silk returned one under par 70. He was out in 33 and home in 37. Glading had-74.
The west course at the Royal Melbourne is considered the most difficult test of true golf in Australia. Sioan Morpeth is an ex-New Zealander. It is understood that Olive Kaye (Mrs. Hollis) was a former Aqstralian and New Zealand champion and lives in New Zealand.
