(N.Z.P.A. —Reuter—Copyright.) (10.40 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Sept. 30. The evacuation of women and children and non-essential males from Kweisui, the capital of Suiyuan, began today as four Communist columns advanced closer to the city. Meanwhile, the crucial battle for the control of the Manchurian corridor continued with the Nationalists recovering several more strongholds north of Chinchow. Numerous buildings in the business sector of Changchun, the last major Government-held city in North Manchuria, were hit last night by Communist artillery. Conditions are rapidly becoming intolerable for the city’s 400,000 inhabitants, many of whom are existing on herbs and soft mud.
