WIDESPREAD ATTACKS ON REBELS IN BURMA

RANGOON Sept. 29. Government troops arc hitting hard at insurgent- bands from the hills of Mandalay in Central Burma, to the swamps of the Irrawaddy Delta in the south. A Government communin'!- reports mopping up at Bassein, the big exporting port. A new police p£>st has been established in Insein a suburb of Rangoon, where insurgents are terrorising the populace. The Associated Press correspondent in Rangoon says Karen members of the Burma Union military police mutinied at Loikaw, the Karenni State capital, and took possession of the town.
