GARDENING SET-BACKS
Sir,-—ln Wednesday night’s issue of your paper I noticed an appeal by the Mayor for tiie people to go easy on the water. In the same issue was a notice by the Town Clerk asking for those interested in growing flowers to attend a meeting on Friday night; this notice states that now is the time to plant. I would suggest that flowers planted now would be parched up, as is the case every year, for the want of water. Surely the Mayor’s warning is inconsistent with the advertisement regarding the growing of more flowers. and also with the anti-fly campaign.
As one who has spent a good deal of time and mcnev in trying to beautify my home. I have had a lot of set-backs, through living in a locality that is sadly neglected by the Borough Council. All the council does for the residents of this locality is collect the rates. I refer to Uoper Fox street. While this is one of Gisborne’s beauty spots, it is the most neglected locality in the borough—neglected to Ihe extent that it is positively dangerous to venture out at night time owing to the large number of wandering stock, mostly horses, that are turned'out on to the roads. These animals do a great deal of damage to fences, hedges and mowed pints on the roadside besides casting offensive matter in the gateways. I can assure the council that it can rely on the residents of this locality to co-operate in beautifying the streets if it will only do its share. UPPER FOX STREET.
