New Appeal Provision For Primary Teachers

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. The Government is introducing a bill providing for the right of appeal by primary school teachers against their non-employment in a position if they have been passed over for a teacher of lower grading marks.

An announcement to this effect was made bv the Minister of Education, Mr. T. "H. McCombs, addressing the annual conference today of the New Zealand Education Boards' Association.

The Minister said every district would have a board to consider appeals as rapidly as possible so that, teachers would not suffer from undue delay. He added that the number of appeals made in the teaching profession would be limited and delay, such as in public service appeals, would not be necessary.

“The N.Z.E.I. welomes the proposed legislation.” said the Dominion president, Mr. J. S. H. Robertson, commenting on the announcement. He added that the institute had sought this for many years, and gratification was felt at Mr. McCombs’ move to redress what it firmly believed was a long standing grievance.
