WHEN WILL PASSENGER TAX BE REMOVED?

(P.R.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. A statement by the Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, on the date when it was proposed to remove the overseas tax levied on all fares paid by overseas passengers leaving New Zealand was sought by Mr. J. R. Mafshall (Oppos., Mt. Victoria) in a notice of a question in the House yesterday. “The abolition of this tax was announced in the Budget, but until a definite date for the removal of the tax is fixed people who are planning to go overseas in the next few months cannot know whether, or not they should pay the tax,” said Mr. Marshall.
