NO SOCCER BALLS AS SOUVENIRS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 19. Test soccer balls as well as cricket stumps apparently fascinate Australian player-souvenir hunters. Mr. H. Smith told last night’s meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Football Association how he had apparently saved the association the cost of three footballs valued at £3/10/- each after last Saturday’s Australian v. New Zealand test at the Basin Reserve. Mr. Smith said he had observed three of the Australian players making off with the three balls used in the test hidden in their jerseys. “No souvenirs, I told them,” said Mr. Smith. "Not at £3/10/- each.” < He was congratulated on his action by other members of the committee.
