N.Z. GIRL DANCER

BARRED TN AUSTRALIA (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Aug. 3. A 16-year-old Wellington dancer, Doreen Brown, who was selected recently as the first New Zealander to join the Ballet Rambert under a permanent contract, has been debarred from touring Australia. The refusal by the directors of an Australian theatre chain to pay her fares and higher salary which she would draw is given as the reason.

Although she is a member of the Australian Actors’ Equity, according to her mother, Mrs. H. R. Brown, a representative of the theatre group in Australia has stated that no New Zealand girls will be taken on tour on the ground that the expense would not be warranted. A representative of the New Zealand Theatrical and Places of Amusement Union said that he had not heard of any bar against Miss Brown dancing in Australia.
