War Declaration Anniversary

Today marks the thirty-fourth anniversary of the declaration of war by England on Germany—the start of the First World War. August, 1914, opened with the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand at Scrajevo, and in the succeeding days relationships between England and Germany became more strained and war was finally declared on August 4. Little did anyone suspect then that the war would drag on for over four years, and that in another 25 years England would be at w ar again with Germany.
