TRADITIONAL GUIDE HATS ALTERED

The traditional navy blue felt hats, upturned at one side, which ever since the movement’s inception have distinguished Guidcrs or leaders of the Girl Guide Association, is being largely replaced in New Zealand by a jaunty, navy beret of much the same cut as those worn by members of the W.A.A.F during the war. Several Gisborne Guiders have already adopted the new beret, which may be worn instead of the navy felt by captains, lieutenants, brown owls, and tawny owls, while the new Ranger Company has decided in favour of the beret en bloc. Commissioners will continue to wear as formerly the navy hat. with cockades of various colours as distinguishing marks of rankInstead of - the cockades by which their rank was formerly indicated. Captains. Lieutenants, Brownie and Ranger lenders will wear a coloured patch on one side of their berets, centred by the silver provincial badge of their province, which was formerly worn at the base of the cockade.
