STRIKE DISLOCATES PORT OF LONDON SHIPPING
(N.7..P.A.—flcutcr—- Copyright.) (10 am) LONDON. June 16. Nearly one-third of tne 275 ships in London’s docks and wharves are idle with the spread of the strike of 4000 dock workers to a further 3000 men._ An increasing number of food ships are becoming involved, including a shipment of eggs which have been unloaded but not moved from the quay.
Ships entering the river found quay space blocked and export cargoes accumulating on the wharves. The whole Pool of London, which stretches two miles down the river from London Bridge and is the most important and largest section of the Port of London, is completely immobilised by the strike. Another message says that 11,743 men are now idle and about 120 ships in port are affected. A new tribunal has been appointed to deal with the strike. It has an independent chairman, two employers’ representatives and two men's representatives. It will meet tomorrow morning.
