U.S. LOAN TO BUILD U.N. OFFICES
(10 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 16. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved yesterday a 65,000,000 dollars long-term United States loan to the United Nations for the construction of a permanent United Nations headquarters in mid-town New York. The committee’s action made it probable that Congress would act on a long-term loan before the adjournment. Similar legislation is pending in the House. An American spokesman at the United Nations said recently that the failure to provide the money might result in serious consideration being given to the transfer of the United Nations’ headquarters from the United States to some other country.
