Second-hand Sacks

A committee to investigate the prices of second-hand sacks which, it was stated, were causing a heavy loss to farmers has been set up by a recent meeting of the council of the agricultural section of Federated Farmers. A merchants’ association representative at the meeting said its members were satisfied with the old charge of 2d on the use of sacks and would support the principle that growers were entitled to recover the cost of their containers. It was decided by the council also to draw the attention of the Standards Institute and importers to the poor quality of many of the corn sacks supplied during the past season. It was reported that the seams were very badly sewn.
